The British government has advised its citizens in Lebanon to leave the country, citing escalating tensions along the Israeli border. Foreign Secretary David Lammy delivered the warning in parliament on Tuesday, highlighting the frequency of artillery exchanges and air strikes.
Lammy emphasized that the situation could deteriorate quickly and that the government cannot guarantee immediate evacuation if the conflict escalates. He stressed that individuals might need to seek shelter in place, adding significant urgency to the advisory.
Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Keir Starmer chaired a meeting of the government's emergency response committee, COBRA, to prepare for all scenarios. Lammy urged all British nationals in Lebanon to heed the government’s advice and leave the country immediately.
