Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv's military administration, stated on the Telegram messaging app, "Air defence systems are being engaged in the region and on the approaches to Kyiv in particular." Reuters witnesses reported hearing blasts, likely indicating air defence systems in action trying to repel the aerial assault.

Both the city of Kyiv and most regions of Ukraine were under air raid alerts starting around 2000 GMT on Tuesday.
