Ethnic Communities Minister Melissa Lee has announced the appointment of eight trustees to the Chinese Poll Tax Heritage Trust. Established in 2004, the Trust works to preserve the history of Chinese New Zealanders and recognize the contributions of early Chinese settlers, while supporting the unique aspects of Chinese New Zealand culture, language, and heritage.

Reappointed for a second term are Debbie Sew-Hoy, Jennifer Too, Lois Yee, and Rodney Wong. Joining the Trust for their first terms are Denise Ng, Eileen Ng, David Wong, and Hector Wong. All new terms will begin on August 1, 2024. The trustees, who are direct descendants of original poll tax payers, represent a range of regions across the country.

Minister Lee praised the trustees for their diverse skills and experience in governance, community work, business, finance, and directorship. She also expressed gratitude to the outgoing trustees—Paul Chin, Malcolm Wong, Mark Ngan Kee, and Melissa Wong—for their significant contributions to the Trust's mission.
