Hezbollah Commander’s Fate Unclear After Israeli Strike

Hezbollah announced that its senior commander, Fuad Shukr, was present in a building in the southern suburbs of Beirut targeted by an Israeli strike, but did not confirm his fate. The strike reportedly killed Shukr, accused by Israel of orchestrating a recent attack. The attack also resulted in casualties among civilians.

In the early hours of Wednesday, Hezbollah revealed that their senior commander, Fuad Shukr, was inside a building in Beirut’s southern suburbs that was targeted by an Israeli airstrike. However, the group did not disclose Shukr’s fate.

Late Tuesday, Israel’s military claimed responsibility for the strike, stating that Shukr, Hezbollah’s highest-ranking commander, was killed. Accused of masterminding a deadly attack in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights over the weekend, Shukr was also blamed for the deaths of several Israeli youths. Hezbollah denied any role in that incident.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant pointed to Shukr, saying, ‘He has the blood of many Israelis on his hands.’ The airstrike, which also resulted in civilian casualties, underscores the escalating tensions. Amid the rubble, Lebanon’s civil defence teams continued their search and rescue operations.
