Tragic Case of 12-Year-Old's Pregnancy Due to Rape Unveiled in Thane

A case has been registered in Thane district after a 12-year-old girl, who became pregnant due to rape, was admitted to the hospital for stomach pain. The girl, who had migrated from Nepal with her family, was assaulted in June by a man who threatened her into silence.

Authorities in Maharashtra's Thane district have registered a case following the pregnancy of a 12-year-old girl, which was the result of rape, an official disclosed on Wednesday.

The disturbing incident came to light after the young girl was admitted to a hospital due to severe stomach pain. The girl and her family had migrated from Nepal to Thane in search of better economic opportunities and were residing at a construction site in Badlapur East. According to the police, the girl was alone in her room in June when a man entered and brutally raped her. The assailant threatened her with dire consequences if she divulged the crime, leading the terrified girl to keep the incident a secret.

Her pregnancy was only discovered when she was hospitalised on July 19. Upon learning of her pregnancy, the girl's mother contacted the Badlapur police station, resulting in a registered rape case under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A thorough investigation has since been initiated.
