Veteran Charged in Failed Venezuela Incursion Plot

Jordan Goudreau, a U.S. military veteran, faces charges for violating U.S. arms export laws by attempting to send weapons to Colombia for a failed 2020 incursion aimed at toppling Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The federal indictment was made public in Tampa, Florida.

Goudreau, who led the Florida-based security firm Silvercorp USA, was taken into custody on Tuesday and is detained at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York. His lawyer has yet to issue a comment on the case.

The planned maritime raid, which began from Colombia, resulted in the capture of two ex-Green Berets, Luke Denman and Airan Berry. They were later freed in a prisoner swap for Alex Saab, an ally of Maduro. Opposition claims that Maduro's re-election victory was rigged, asserting their candidate had more support.
