A Pakistani intruder was gunned down by BSF troops along the International Border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, a senior officer reported on Thursday.
The officer emphasized that anyone with malicious intent on Indian soil will face a similar fate.
The 45-year-old unarmed intruder was neutralized near the Khora post in Manguchek after he crossed over from Tugliyalpur, Pakistan, late Wednesday night, according to officials.
"Around 10.15 pm, BSF forward duty points observed movement of a person crossing the International Border from Pakistan. His actions were monitored, and he was challenged upon entering Indian territory," Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier, D K Boora detailed to reporters from the incident location.
Boora, along with other senior BSF and police officers, visited the area in the morning despite heavy rainfall to assess the security situation.
"The intruder attempted to escape but was fired upon by vigilant personnel and neutralized. The search operation in the area continues," the IG BSF stated.
He suggested that the intruder might have been intentionally sent to check for vulnerabilities to later exploit for terrorist activities.
"This operation is a warning that anyone with ill intentions toward Indian territory will meet the same fate as the intruder," Boora reiterated.
Officials disclosed that the intruder's body was found near the border fence without any incriminating material on him. Authorities are working to identify the deceased and have handed the body to the police for postmortem and other legal processes.
