Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Friday mandated a thorough investigation into the conditions of all shelter homes run by the Delhi government, following the tragic deaths of inmates at the Asha Kiran facility in Rohini. The LG has requested a comprehensive report within a week, according to a statement from the Raj Niwas.
In addition, Saxena has called for adequate compensation to be provided to the families or guardians of the deceased inmates from Asha Kiran, the statement noted.
The governor has also demanded a white paper detailing the operations of all shelter homes run by the Social Welfare department, Women and Child department, and DUSIB, encompassing expenditure, available facilities, number of inmates, and medical care provided. This report is to be submitted within three weeks.
Over a month, 14 deaths have been reported at Asha Kiran, including 13 adults and one minor, raising serious concerns about the facility's management and care standards.
