Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to explain how a caste-based census could be conducted without disclosing one's own caste. Sarma questioned Gandhi's demand for such a census and asked him to reveal his formula for its implementation.

Addressing mediapersons, Sarma stated that the Bihar government had conducted a caste-based survey, but its feasibility on a national level remains unclear without personal caste disclosure. He emphasized the need for Gandhi to clarify this on the floor of the House for further discussions.

The debate intensified following BJP leader Anurag Thakur's reference to Gandhi's caste during a Lok Sabha discussion. Gandhi, the opposition leader in Lok Sabha, accused Thakur of insulting and abusing him, escalating tensions between the opposition and treasury benches.
