A police constable in Uttar Pradesh has alleged that his ailing wife died due to the refusal of his police station in-charge to grant him leave, leading to a probe by the department, an officer stated.

Ballia Superintendent of Police (SP), Vikrant Veer, initiated the inquiry on Friday after receiving Constable Pradeep Sonkar’s complaint. According to Sonkar, the station in-charge not only denied him leave but also reprimanded him when he requested time off to care for his sick wife. He asserts this denial resulted in her demise due to inadequate treatment.

The case is now being investigated by Sikandarpur Circle Officer (CO) Ashish Mishra. Sonkar’s tragic story, including his wife’s death before he could get home on July 29 and his five-month-old daughter, has surfaced online, demanding justice and accountability.
