Arrests Made in Thane Religious Conversion Case

A woman and one other person were arrested in Thane's Vitthalwadi area following complaints from the woman's mother about forced religious conversion. The mother alleged her daughter was influenced by a family and a controversial Islamic preacher. Further investigation is ongoing, with eight suspects still at large.

In a significant development, a woman and another individual have been arrested in Thane's Vitthalwadi area on charges related to a forced religious conversion case. The case was registered after the woman’s mother filed a complaint.

A Vitthalwadi police official stated that the complainant, a resident of Ulhasnagar, alleged her daughter was forcibly converted to Islam under the influence of a neighboring family and videos by a controversial Islamic preacher. The conversion reportedly occurred while the complainant was in London in June 2022, and her daughter went missing thereafter.

The complaint also revealed that a letter from the Ulhasnagar and Ambernath Masjid Trust confirmed the conversion. Following the conversion, the daughter allegedly withdrew funds from her father’s account. The mother claimed her daughter has been brainwashed and might be coerced into illegal activities. A case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. The arrested individuals are in police custody, and eight suspects remain at large.
