Union Minister Suresh Gopi on Sunday addressed the need for the Central government to examine the legality of classifying the recent landslides in north Kerala as a national disaster. The tragic event has claimed hundreds of lives and devastated the Wayanad district.
As the Union Minister of State for Tourism, Petroleum, and Natural Gas, Gopi stated the importance of thorough legal evaluation after assessing the impact of the landslides, which demolished numerous homes in areas like Mundakkai and Chooralmala.
During his visit to the affected regions, Gopi spoke with rescue personnel about the ongoing search efforts. He emphasized that a comprehensive report will be submitted to the Central government. For the state to receive assistance, it must first assess the damage and formally request aid.
