Social Investment Minister Nicola Willis has called for expressions of interest to join the newly established Social Investment Board and announced a search for a Chief Executive for the Social Investment Agency. This initiative aims to enhance the impact of the over $70 billion invested annually by the Government in social services.
"Social investment is about ensuring we achieve better results from the significant funds allocated to support our most vulnerable populations," said Ms. Willis. "Despite decades of effort and numerous strategies, the impact has not met expectations. We need a new approach that emphasizes hard evidence, community empowerment, and a clear focus on outcomes."
The Social Investment Agency will spearhead this transformation within the public service, and the search is now on for a permanent Chief Executive. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader committed to reforming how the Government delivers support to New Zealanders in need.
To further accelerate this shift, a Social Investment Board will be established to provide external challenge and guidance. The board will consist of 6-8 individuals with practical knowledge, expertise in data and evaluation, and a readiness to challenge existing practices. "We seek individuals who understand what works and what doesn't for those in need, and who can bring these insights to the forefront," Ms. Willis added.
Nominations for the Social Investment Board will be accepted until Sunday, August 11, 2024, with the board expected to be operational later this year. Interested individuals can find the Terms of Reference and application details on the Social Investment Board's website.
Applications for the Chief Executive role are open until Monday, August 12, 2024. Candidates can apply through the Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission's website.
