In a dramatic turn of events, three suspected cattle smugglers were apprehended following a firefight with police in Uttar Pradesh's Katra area. The confrontation resulted in injuries to a police constable and two of the accused, officials confirmed on Monday.

The incident unfolded late Sunday night when police officers, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the smugglers on the Kamalapur canal bridge. The smugglers opened fire, injuring constable Tarun Sirohi, 24, before the police retaliated, injuring suspects Mohammad Zafar Qureshi, 40, and Rahim, 53. Another suspect, Asif, was caught during an escape attempt.

The authorities recovered a slaughtered animal, associated equipment, and a knife from the spot. Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar Meena stated that Qureshi and Rahim are currently receiving medical treatment, and efforts are ongoing to capture other absconding suspects.
