Rajasthan Assembly Faces Uproar Over Public Prosecutor Appointments

The Rajasthan Assembly, led by Speaker Vasudev Devnani, faced significant upheaval over the appointment of public prosecutors under IPC sections instead of the new Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The session was marked by repeated adjournments and the suspension of Congress MLA Mukesh Bhakar for the remaining sessions due to disorderly conduct.

The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed significant turmoil on Monday due to the controversy surrounding public prosecutor appointments under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) rather than the recently enforced Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani was compelled to adjourn the House twice amidst the chaos. Eventually, Assembly Chairperson Sandeep Sharma adjourned the House for the day. In a decisive action, Devnani also suspended Congress MLA Mukesh Bhakar for the remaining sessions, following a proposal by Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg.

After a lunch break, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully demanded an explanation from the government regarding the appointments. Jully highlighted that the CrPC was replaced by the BNS on June 30, and subsequent prosecutor appointments should comply with the new code. The issue escalated, leading to heated disputes within the House. Ultimately, Chairperson Sharma had to call in marshals to remove Bhakar, further adjourned the session till Tuesday.
