A 24-year-old man was killed in a brutal attack allegedly by his wife’s relatives over their interfaith marriage, according to police in Gujarat's Devbhumi Dwarka district.

Six individuals, including the woman’s brothers, were arrested in connection with the attack, which occurred in Shedhakhai village of Bhanvad taluka on Saturday evening, stated an official.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Hardik Prajapati said the victim, Yagnik Dudhrejia, was murdered by his wife’s relatives who were against their interfaith marriage.

The FIR revealed that Dudhrejia fell in love with Ramza, a woman from a Muslim family within the same village, and the couple married against her family’s wishes.

After the birth of their baby girl, the couple returned to the village, much to the disapproval of Ramza's family. On Saturday evening, Dudhrejia and his friend Hardeep Singh Vajubha were intercepted and allegedly attacked with iron pipes, axes, and knives.

Dudhrejia sustained grievous injuries and was transferred to a government hospital in Jamnagar, where he was declared dead.

Based on a complaint filed by Dudhrejia’s mother, the police registered a case against six individuals. The arrested suspects were identified as Sajid Detha, Salim Detha, Juma Detha, Ahmed Detha, Osman Musa, and Hothi Kasam.
