Man Arrested for Threatening Email to Bihar CM

A 51-year-old man from Kolkata was arrested for sending a threat email to the office of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Preliminary investigation confirmed no terror group links. The man, Mohd Zahid, will be transported to Patna for interrogation. An FIR was filed based on police statements.

A 51-year-old man from Kolkata was arrested on Monday for allegedly sending an email threatening to blow up the office of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna, officials said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused, although claiming ties with Al-Qaeda in his email, has no links to any terror group. Rajeev Mishra, Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna, explained that the man, identified as Mohd Zahid, was detained in the Bowbazar area of Kolkata and will be transported to Patna upon securing a transit remand.

Zahid, who runs a small shop on BB Ganguly Street, originally hails from Begusarai district in Bihar. The motives behind the threat mail sent on July 16 remain unclear. The Patna Police team also recovered the mobile phone used to send the email. Further interrogation is expected after his arrival in Patna. An FIR, based on the statement of Sachivalaya Police Station SHO Sanjeev Kumar, was registered on August 2.
