Elusive Fugitive Captured After 20 Years on the Run

The CBI has arrested V Chalapathi Rao, a proclaimed offender in a 2005 bank fraud case, who had been missing for 20 years and was declared dead by a court. Rao evaded capture by frequently changing his identity and location. He was apprehended in Tamil Nadu.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested V Chalapathi Rao, a proclaimed offender who had been absconding for 20 years in a bank fraud case and had even been declared dead by a court.

According to a press release from the CBI, Rao managed to avoid arrest by frequently changing his identity and locations. Initially, he worked as a computer operator at SBI Chandulal Biradari Branch, Hyderabad, and was accused in 2005 of defrauding the bank of Rs. 50 lakh through fabricated documents.

After missing since 2004, Rao constantly changed his locations, contact numbers, and identities, eventually being arrested in a village in Tamil Nadu. The meticulous pursuit by the CBI finally led to his capture on August 4.
