The Indian Sign Language Research and Training Centre (ISLRTC) and the Army Welfare Association Society (AWES) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in New Delhi, aimed at advancing the promotion and training of Indian Sign Language (ISL) across the Army Public Schools network.
The signing ceremony was chaired by Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary of the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD). This strategic partnership seeks to improve sign language skills among school administrators, students, parents, and teachers, with a particular focus on enhancing the capabilities of faculty members within Army Public Schools.
The MoU represents a significant milestone in the development and implementation of ISL initiatives, contributing to the broader goal of empowering and including the Deaf community. By equipping Army Public School educators with proficient ISL skills, the collaboration aims to foster a more inclusive and accessible learning environment for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Dr. N. Honnareddy, Director of ISLRTC, and Maj. Gen. P.R. Murali, Managing Director of AWES, were the signatories of the MoU. The ceremony was also attended by key figures including Col. K.K. Sharma, Director of Schools at AWES; Ms. Manisha Verma, faculty member of Inclusive Education at AWES; and Dr. Abhishek Kr. Srivastava, Assistant Professor at ISLRTC.
This partnership is expected to bring substantial benefits to the educational ecosystem by empowering educators and supporting the development of a more inclusive academic environment.
