Enforcement Directorate Official Remanded in Bribery Case

An assistant director of the Enforcement Directorate, Sandeep Singh Yadav, was apprehended by the CBI on charges of accepting a Rs 20 lakh bribe from a Mumbai-based jeweller. Yadav allegedly threatened the jeweller's son in a money laundering case. He has been remanded in CBI custody till August 14.

An assistant director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Sandeep Singh Yadav, was placed in CBI custody on Friday, a day after being detained for allegedly accepting a Rs 20 lakh bribe from a Mumbai-based jeweller. The remand will last until August 14.

The arrest, which took place on Thursday, stemmed from accusations that Yadav had threatened to arrest the jeweller's son in a money laundering investigation, demanding an initial bribe of Rs 25 lakh that was later negotiated down to Rs 20 lakh. A special CBI judge, S P Naik, found reasonable grounds to believe the charges were valid.

The CBI verified the allegations during a verification exercise and caught Yadav red-handed while accepting the bribe in Delhi. Yadav has denied the accusations, claiming he was falsely implicated and asserting no cash was found at his residence. The investigation is ongoing.
