In a significant development, a self-styled Maoist zonal commander with a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head was apprehended during a special operation in Jharkhand's Palamu district, law enforcement officials confirmed on Friday.

The Maoist, identified as 61-year-old Sitaram Rajwar, had been on the run with standing warrants in 51 cases, including murder, riots, and extortion. Rajwar had a bounty of Rs 3 lakh declared by the Bihar government in addition to the Rs 10 lakh by Jharkhand authorities.

Police officials revealed that Rajwar's capture was made possible by crucial intelligence inputs and leads provided by another arrested Maoist, Rajendra Singh. Rajwar's extensive criminal activities spanned several decades and included violent encounters that resulted in multiple police casualties.
