A fruit merchant was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Balapur area over previous enmity, according to police reports on Friday.
The incident occurred on Thursday night while the 36-year-old merchant was on his way home on his two-wheeler. The attackers used their car to knock him down and then proceeded to attack him with sharp weapons before opening fire, police said. The injured man was transported to a hospital where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment.
Authorities revealed that the victim had been involved in several criminal cases, with a rowdy sheet filed against him at the Kanchanbagh police station. It is suspected that he was murdered due to previous enmity. A case has been registered, and an investigation is ongoing.
