Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of disaster-hit areas in northern Kerala, where landslides have claimed over 200 lives. The survey covered Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom hamlets. Modi departed from Kannur Airport at 11.15 am on an Indian Air Force helicopter.

Accompanying him were Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi. Following the aerial survey, Modi plans to visit certain landslide-affected areas by road, starting from SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta.

The visit comes as the Kerala government has requested Rs 2,000 crore for rehabilitation and relief activities. At least 226 people have died, and many remain missing, following the devastating landslides on July 30, marking one of the biggest natural calamities to hit the state.
