The Assam Police is maintaining a high alert along the India-Bangladesh border to prevent any illegal entry in light of the turbulence in the neighboring country, according to a high-ranking police official.
The Indian government has issued a directive prohibiting unauthorized entry from Bangladesh, confirmed Director General of Police, G.P. Singh.
G.P. Singh stated that the Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary line of defense, with Assam Police bolstering the second line of defense. Exceptions are made for verified Indian passport holders, mainly students and traders.
Additional government orders specify that verified Bangladeshi citizens will be escorted back through a safe corridor. Joint patrolling by Assam Police and BSF is ensuring no unauthorized entry.
As for the upcoming Independence Day, comprehensive security plans have been implemented, and increased vigilance in parade grounds has been directed by the Superintendent of Police.
Singh also reviewed security in Upper Assam along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border amidst reports of ULFA (I) militant activities and emphasized dialogue over violence for sustained economic prosperity.
