In a tense encounter early Sunday, security forces clashed with terrorists in the remote forests of Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar, officials reported. Despite the brief skirmish, pilgrims visiting the Machail Mata shrine have been assured of their safety.
The confrontation occurred when police, supported by the Army and paramilitary units, launched a search operation in Nownatta, Naagseni Peyaas, and adjacent areas following intelligence on terrorist movements. Although the gunfight was short-lived, reinforcements have been dispatched to the area as efforts to track down the fleeing terrorists continue.
Officials emphasized that the annual Machail Mata yatra remains unaffected by the latest clash, reassuring pilgrims that all necessary security measures are in place. The pilgrimage, which began on July 25, is set to run until September 5.
