The Politburo of the CPI(M) expressed grave concern on Sunday regarding the spate of attacks on Hindu places of worship in Bangladesh, urging the interim government to ensure the safety of minority communities.
The CPI(M) highlighted the need for the Indian government to address this pressing issue with Bangladesh. 'The Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its serious concern at the reports of several attacks on Hindu places of worship and the minority community in Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government,' the CPI(M) stated.
The party underlined that fundamentalist forces appear to be targeting minorities amid the turmoil following Sheikh Hasina's government collapse. 'Immediate and firm steps should be taken by the interim government that has been installed to ensure the security and safety of the minorities, their houses and places of worship. The Union government must also pursue this matter with the authorities concerned in Bangladesh,' the CPI(M) added.
Reports indicate widespread vandalism of Hindu temples, homes, and businesses, with at least two Hindu leaders associated with the former Prime Minister's Awami League Party killed since Sheikh Hasina's resignation and departure to India on Monday.
