Nagpur Civic Body Cracks Down on Hazardous Open Plots

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has filed cases against owners of 14 open plots due to health hazards from stagnant water and overgrown vegetation. Repeated warnings were ignored, leading to FIRs being registered at three police stations under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The civic body in Maharashtra's Nagpur city has taken legal action against the owners of 14 open plots that allegedly posed health risks due to the accumulation of stagnant water and overgrown vegetation, an official said on Sunday.

According to Dr. Gajendra Mahalle, head of the civic solid waste department, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) filed first information reports (FIRs) against the plot owners after they failed to heed multiple warnings from authorities. The cases have been registered at Hudkeshwar, Yashodhara Nagar, and Kapil Nagar police stations under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita.

The NMC's crackdown follows repeated notices and deadlines for plot maintenance that went unaddressed.
