A man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing a 20-year-old married woman he was in a relationship with in Jharkhand’s Dumka district, police said. After killing the woman, the man set her body on fire in an attempt to conceal her identity, they added.

On August 9, police recovered the half-burnt body of a woman from a roadside area under the Masanjore police station. Dumka Superintendent of Police Pitambar Singh Kherwar identified the accused, Pawan Kumar Chaudhary, 25, through a tattoo on the victim's hand. She had inscribed his name on her hand. The suspect was arrested from the Mohanpur police station area in Deoghar district.

The SP revealed that the woman, a mother of one, had been in an extramarital relationship with Chaudhary for the past 18 months but had been pressurizing him to marry her in recent months. This led to a rift between them. On August 8, Chaudhary allegedly took her to Masanjore on his motorcycle and strangled her to death with a scarf near a bush. He then attempted to burn her body to hide her identity. Masanjore police station in-charge Rajesh Ranjan mentioned that the woman's husband is unemployed.
