A consumer commission in Central Mumbai has dismissed a woman's complaint against Uber over its drivers' refusal to provide rides when she was accompanied by her pet dog.
The commission cited the absence of any law in India concerning pet transportation in public vehicles in its decision.
The woman, a resident of Wadala, claimed that despite Uber's pet-friendly policies, drivers denied her rides on two occasions after learning about her pet. She demanded Rs 10 lakh for service deficiency, unfair trade practices, mental agony, and legal expenses.
Uber India argued that the drivers in question were not made parties to the case and there was no evidence to support the allegations. It pointed out the lack of a binding policy on pet transportation in India.
The commission acknowledged the woman's concerns for a pet-friendly environment but highlighted the absence of specific legal provisions to grant her requested relief.
