A 24-year-old man was detained by the Ahmedabad crime branch on Wednesday following a bomb threat to the city police control room on Independence Day, reports indicate.

The individual, identified as Arihant Kankaria from Kubernagar, is reportedly suffering from depression linked to his academic struggles, according to preliminary investigations.

Authorities stated Kankaria made the threat call around 1:24 PM, without specifying a location for the supposed blast. Using technical analysis, police tracked the call and detained him within hours.

Kankaria's mental health appears to be unstable, officials say.

This incident recalls the tragic bombings in Ahmedabad on July 26, 2008, which resulted in 56 deaths and over 200 injuries. In February 2022, a special court sentenced 38 accused to death and 11 others to life imprisonment for the attacks.
