An elderly man, his wife, and their son were booked for allegedly manhandling and abusing a traffic cop after he stopped their car over a seat belt violation, an official said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at Four Bungalows in Andheri on Tuesday, according to an official from Versova police station. Constable Ganesh Sonawane from the DN Nagar Traffic Division noticed that a woman in the front passenger seat was not wearing a seat belt and asked them to pull over.

The accused – Sadhana Anand, Advaik Anand, and Kapil Anand – allegedly assaulted Sonawane and misbehaved with passersby. Sonawane recorded the incident, and another cop later arrived at the scene to take the family to the Versova police station. The trio has been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have been served notices to join the probe.
