16-Year-Old Boy Beaten to Death by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh

A 16-year-old schoolboy, Soyyam Shankar, was allegedly beaten to death by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district. Suspected of being a police informer, Shankar was in his native village for a relative's funeral. His family, fearing for their safety, has relocated. Investigations are ongoing.

A 16-year-old schoolboy was allegedly beaten to death by Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police reported on Wednesday.

Identified as Soyyam Shankar, the incident occurred Tuesday night in Puvarti village under Jagargunda police limits. Shankar had returned to the village for a relative's funeral. Police suspect he was killed on suspicion of being a police informer.

Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan disclosed that initial investigations indicate Shankar came from his school in Dantewada district following the death of a female family member. Shankar's elder brother was also purportedly murdered by Naxalites days earlier. Fearing for their lives, Shankar's family has relocated. Authorities continue to investigate amidst notable Naxalite presence in the region.
