In an effort to combat urban voter apathy, Haryana will establish polling stations within high-rise apartment complexes ahead of the assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed on Friday.

Kumar mentioned that this initiative targets reducing congestion and boosting voter turnout in cities like Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat. 'Some stations will also be set up in slum areas,' he added.

More than 20,000 polling stations are planned for the state, with over 7000 in urban and about 13,000 in rural areas. The 90-member Haryana Assembly elections are slated for October 1, with results to be announced on October 4. Haryana has 2.01 crore registered voters, including first-time voters, senior citizens, and disabled voters.
