Orientation Programme for Odisha’s New MLAs Amid Protocol Row

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated an orientation for new Odisha Legislative Assembly members. Despite Rijiju’s encouraging address, the BJD and Congress boycotted due to protocol breach claims. Odisha CM and others attended, while BJD plans a separate session. Rijiju emphasized discipline and democratic values.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju inaugurated a two-day orientation programme for newly elected members to the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Saturday.

However, the event faced a boycott from the opposition BJD and Congress over alleged protocol breaches. With 84 of the 147 assembly members being first-timers, Rijiju stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and upholding the dignity of the House. 'Making noise in the House may give you a headline the next day, but it has no positive impact in the long-run,' he advised.

Rijiju emphasized sharing his experiences as a member of Parliament rather than teaching. The inauguration, attended by Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Speaker Surama Padhy, and others, was aimed to guide the new MLAs. Meanwhile, the BJD announced a separate training session for its members citing protocol issues.
