10 Arrested in Thane for Extortion Over Ganpati Festival Donation

Thane police registered a case against 10 individuals for extorting Rs 51,000 from a man as a donation for the upcoming Ganpati festival. After offering Rs 5,000, the man was threatened with a chopper. Five accused, including Akash Bind and Babu @ Suraj Bind, have been booked for extortion.

Thane police have apprehended 10 suspects on charges of extortion related to a Ganpati festival donation, an official from the Srinagar police station confirmed Sunday.

The victim was approached by the accused while at a political party's office on Saturday night. When the man offered Rs 5,000 instead of the demanded Rs 51,000, the aggressors became violent, and one brandished a chopper, threatening his life.

Identified suspects include Akash Bind, Babu @ Suraj Bind, Sriom Yadav, Chandan Gupta, and Sunny. The group faces serious charges under extortion laws.
