Tragic End to Udaipur Communal Violence: Teen Succumbs to Injuries

After four days of battling for life, 15-year-old Devraj, whose stabbing by a fellow student led to communal violence in Udaipur, succumbed to his injuries. The incident triggered elaborate security measures and internet suspensions in the city. Compensation and support for the family have been arranged.

After a relentless four-day battle for his life, 15-year-old Devraj, the victim of a stabbing that incited communal unrest in Udaipur, passed away from his injuries on Monday.

In a poignant moment before his death, Devraj’s sister tied a rakhi on his wrist in the hospital as part of Raksha Bandhan celebrations, confirmed Udaipur Collector, Arvind Poswal.

The city has since been under tight security, with mobile internet services suspended until 10 pm Tuesday to stave off further violence. Inspector General of Police (Udaipur) Ajaypal Lamba reported that Devraj's body has been moved to the mortuary for postmortem.

Officials have assured that the body will be released to the family post-examination, with an appeal for public peace.

Meanwhile, Udaipur MLA Tarachand Jain disclosed that a compensation amounting to Rs 51 lakh will be provided to Devraj’s family. The agreement also includes a fast-track trial of the case, employment to a family member, and enhanced security for them.

Security remains tight across the city, with heavy police presence at the district hospital and other key areas to ensure law and order. Following the incident, public protests led by Hindu groups resulted in arson and vandalism, which prompted the closure of all schools and a suspension of mobile internet services as a precautionary measure.
