The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) will send a team to Thane, Maharashtra, to investigate the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old girl at a local school. The top child rights organization has criticized the delay in registering an FIR regarding the incident, which has fueled public anger.
NCPCR Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo publicized his disappointment over the issue via social media and confirmed that a team will be sent to probe the matter. He raised concerns about why the local police delayed the lodging of the FIR by 12 hours.
''I will personally oversee the investigation to ensure that all negligent police officers are held accountable,'' Kanoongo announced on X.
The incident has sparked public outrage, with parents organizing protests, including a rail blockade, to demand swift and stern action against those involved.
On August 17, law enforcement apprehended an attendant from the school in Thane's Badlapur region for allegedly abusing two kindergarten girls, aged three and four. According to the complaint, the abuse occurred in the school bathroom. The accused has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and remains in custody.
