Israel Reclaims 6 Hostages' Bodies Amid Gaza Strife
Israel has retrieved the bodies of six hostages from Gaza amid ongoing negotiations to secure the release of over 100 more captives. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is mediating talks. The families of the hostages are urging the Israeli government to finalize a release deal with Hamas.
Israel retrieved the bodies of six hostages from the Gaza Strip, the military said on Tuesday, as negotiations continued to bring back the remaining captives in the besieged Palestinian enclave. Currently, 109 hostages are believed to remain in Gaza, with more than a third presumed dead.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met officials in Egypt on Tuesday as part of his regional trip aimed at bridging Israel-Hamas differences to end the fighting and secure the hostages' return. Relatives of the six recovered hostages expressed frustration at missed ceasefire opportunities.
Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed that Israeli soldiers had recovered the bodies from tunnels under southern Gaza, following a complex operation. Israel's chief military spokesman, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, vowed to bring back all the hostages but acknowledged the challenges. The Israeli government faces increasing pressure from hostage families to finalize a release deal with Hamas.
