A French police officer sustained injuries on Saturday when a car exploded and caught fire in the car park of a synagogue located in La Grande-Motte, as reported by a union representative. Following the incident, French authorities announced that security at Jewish institutions would be reinforced.

The police are currently treating the explosion, which involved two cars—one containing a gas bottle—as an attempted arson. Several politicians and Jewish organizations have condemned the act as an antisemitic assault. BFM TV revealed that the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has taken charge of the inquiry. The country has witnessed a rise in antisemitic actions subsequent to the recent conflict between Hamas and Israel.

Local news sources indicated that the cars were set on fire around 8:30 a.m. French Jewish group leader Yonathan Arfi described the act as a deliberate attempt to target the Jewish community. Police union representative William Maury confirmed the officer's life was not at risk, and Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect while bolstering security for Jewish sites across France.
