The sinking of a luxury yacht on Aug. 19 off the northern coast of Sicily has left seven people dead, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, his daughter Hannah, and Morgan Stanley's Jonathan Bloomer.

The British-flagged 184-foot superyacht, The Bayesian, went down in pre-dawn darkness near Palermo after what prosecutors believe was a powerful 'downburst' wind. Out of the 22 people on board, 15 survived, while six of the 12 passengers died. Prosecutors are investigating the yacht's captain for manslaughter and shipwreck.

The vessel sent its last signal at 0206 GMT and sank from the stern, lying on its starboard side at a depth of around 50 meters. Forensic investigations revealed that the deceased were found in their cabins, likely asleep during the storm. Questions remain about why the yacht sank so quickly, with speculation pointing to possible human errors or open portholes allowing water to flood in.
