The Madhya Pradesh government has suspended six Government Railway Police officers, including a station in-charge, over a viral video showing the beating of a woman and her grandson in Katni district. The incident, which occurred in October last year, has sparked outrage and calls for justice.
The Congress party, identifying the victims as Dalit, held a five-hour protest demanding the registration of a First Information Report against the accused officers. According to Additional Superintendent of Police Santosh Deharia, the complaint has been registered and updated online.
State Congress president Jitu Patwari criticized the BJP-led government for its handling of the incident, warning officials not to act as agents of the ruling party. Meanwhile, investigations are underway to understand the reasons behind the mistreatment and the leak of the video footage.
