On Tuesday, a comprehensive mock drill lasting over half an hour was carried out at Jammu Tawi Railway Station to gauge the alertness and coordination of staff and various agencies in managing emergency situations, according to officials.

The joint exercise, conducted by the Railways in collaboration with teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and Government Railway Police, took place between 11.08 am to 11.40 am, Divisional Transportation Manager (DTM) Prateek Srivastava informed PTI.

Srivastava stated that the drill tested the preparedness of all involved agencies for relief and rescue operations, with an emphasis on coordination and communication among rescuers during a train accident response. An accident scene was simulated at the railway yard, prompting mobilization of relevant departments and agencies to clear the area and evacuate casualties. Simultaneously, a technical team worked on repairing and restoring the track.

Divisional Regional Manager Rajiv Singh Slaria mentioned, "This joint drill was conducted to assess staff alertness and their response in case of an accident...we are fully alert to handle any situation."

Assistant Commandant of NDRF's 13th battalion, Parveen Singh, emphasized the importance of such exercises for preparing for real-time scenarios. "The drill tested the accident response and the synergy among sister agencies for effective coordination to ensure immediate relief to the victims," he said, adding that these exercises are conducted regularly at their own locations to continuously hone their skills.
