In a tragic turn of events, a class 12 student, Aryan Mishra, was chased and shot dead on August 23 when five men, suspected to be cow vigilantes, mistook him for a cattle smuggler, according to police sources on Tuesday.

The five accused—Saurabh, Anil Kaushik, Varun, Krishna, and Adesh—were apprehended on August 28 and placed in police custody for two days, as stated by Superintendent of Police (Crime) Aman Yadav.

Police interrogation revealed that the accused had acted on a tip-off regarding cattle smugglers in the area. Misidentifying Mishra and his friends, Shanky and Harshit, the accused followed their car for 30 kilometers and opened fire when the car did not stop, leading to Mishra's death near the Gadhpuri toll on the Delhi-Agra National Highway.
