Sandip Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Calcutta High Court's dismissal of his plea to be included in a financial irregularities case dating back to his tenure.
On August 23, the high court transferred the probe from a state-constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The decision follows the murder and alleged rape of a junior doctor, which has sparked nationwide protests.
The high court's decision came after a petition from former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali, who sought a comprehensive investigation into the alleged financial misconduct. The CBI arrested Ghosh and three others on September 2. Ghosh, represented by advocate Siddhartha Chowdhury, took the matter to the apex court, where the case is set for hearing before a bench including Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud.
