India and the Maldives engaged in a significant round of defence dialogue on Friday, concentrating on the security situation in the Indian Ocean and fast-tracking ongoing defence projects.
The defence dialogue, occurring in Delhi, comes nearly a month after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit to the Maldives, marking the first high-level engagement since Mohamed Muizzu, a pro-China president, assumed office.
The Defence Ministry described the dialogue as productive, noting it would advance mutual interests and bring greater stability and prosperity to the Indian Ocean Region. Both sides also discussed high-level exchanges and upcoming bilateral military exercises.
