Strife in Manipur: Prohibitory Orders Imposed Amid Student Protests

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in Manipur’s Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts in response to escalating student protests demanding the restoration of peace in the conflict-ridden state.

The administration implemented an indefinite curfew, restricting residents from leaving their homes, while essential services like media, electricity, court, and health were exempted.

The student protests, sparked by frustrations over the prolonged crisis, led to violent clashes, including live fire incidents. Students have issued a 24-hour deadline to the governor to meet their demands, which include the removal of the Director General of Police and the state’s security advisor.
