A Delhi court on Tuesday granted interim bail to Lok Sabha MP Engineer Rashid, allowing him to remain free until October 2 in a terror funding case. Rashid plans to utilize this period for campaigning in the upcoming Jammu & Kashmir assembly elections.
Engineer Rashid, whose full name is Sheikh Abdul Rashid, gained prominence by defeating former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Baramulla. He sought interim bail as his name had surfaced during investigations involving Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who was linked to terror funding activities.
Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh approved Rashid's bail on a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh and one surety of the same amount, with the condition that he must not influence witnesses or the ongoing investigation. Rashid, arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2019, is currently lodged in Tihar jail. The court's decision on his regular bail application will be released tomorrow.
