The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday began interrogating TMC MLA Dr. Sudipto Roy at his residence in Sithi, north Kolkata, in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a young doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
CBI officials also carried out a search at a nursing home owned by Roy, the MLA from Sreerampur, as part of their probe. "He was present at the hospital soon after news of the doctor's death surfaced. We are questioning him about his knowledge of the case," a CBI officer told PTI.
Roy is the chairperson of the 'Rogi Kalyan Samity' of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The postgraduate trainee's body was discovered with injury marks on August 9, leading to the arrest of a Kolkata Police civic volunteer the following day. The CBI took over the investigation on orders from the Calcutta High Court.
