A man was arrested for allegedly conning several middle-aged women across India by marrying them and then exploiting them financially, authorities reported.
The accused, Biranchi Narayan Nath of Odisha's Angul district, targeted these women via a matrimonial website, masquerading as a railway employee, Income Tax inspector, or Customs officer. His victims, often unmarried, divorced, or widowed, were emotionally manipulated and promised lifelong support and employment, according to police.
He would undergo marriage rituals in temples and cohabit with the women without ever revealing his true background. Nath extorted these women by threatening to disclose their private photos and videos. Numerous cases are registered against him in Odisha, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and other states. His arrest followed a complaint from a Cuttack woman, who lost her husband in a road accident and was defrauded of cash and gold. An active investigation continues, police confirmed.
