In the escalating crisis in Manipur, Congress MP A Bimol Akoijam has leveled sharp criticisms at the Centre, accusing it of neglect and inaction. Akoijam argues that such negligence would not have been tolerated had the crisis unfolded in states like Uttar Pradesh or Bihar.
During an interview with PTI Videos, Akoijam lambasted the government's approach, suggesting it has allowed Manipur to deteriorate to the level of a 'banana republic' akin to Afghanistan. He emphasized that with 60,000 troops in Manipur, the Centre should have addressed the crisis more effectively.
Akoijam pointed out inconsistencies in the state leadership's messaging and underscored the severe impact of the ethnic violence, which has claimed over 220 lives since May 3, 2023. He urged the government to take decisive and judicious actions, warning that allowing the situation to fester threatens the legitimacy of state institutions.
